How I Would Create Content In 2026

The core observation

For most of the history of the internet, content was scarce.

If you wanted to learn something:

  • somebody had to write it
  • somebody had to film it
  • somebody had to publish it

The bottleneck was creation.

Today the bottleneck is something else.

Content is abundant.

Attention is scarce.

Trust is scarce.

Credibility is scarce.

Consistency is scarce.

Experience is scarce.

That changes what content is for.

I’ve previously written about how The Internet Is Starting To Rank Coherence and In Search – The Trust Layer Is Becoming the Strategy

This article is really a continuation of those ideas. If discovery is changing, how should we think about content?

The Old Content Game

For years the game looked like this:

Create more content.

Cover more keywords with less competition.

Publish more frequently.

Expand topical authority.

Build larger content libraries.

And to be fair:

It worked.

Because discovery systems needed documents to retrieve.

The more documents you had, the more opportunities you created.

What AI Changed

AI didn’t eliminate content.

It commoditized content.

The average article is easier to produce than at any point in internet history.

Which means content itself becomes less valuable.

Not worthless.

Less valuable.

What becomes more valuable is:

Who is saying it.

Why they’re saying it.

Whether they’ve lived it.

Whether they say similar things elsewhere.

Whether the signal remains consistent over time.

If I Started Today

This is where it becomes personal.

You could literally write:

If I started from zero today, I wouldn’t build a content strategy.

I would build an evidence strategy.

That evidence would include:

  • articles
  • videos
  • observations
  • interviews
  • project work
  • public thinking

The goal would not be volume.

The goal would be recognizability.

When someone encounters my work in five different places, they should encounter roughly the same person.

Not five different versions of me.

Why Most People Are Still Playing The Old Game

This is the interesting part.

Many creators are using AI to create more content.

I suspect the bigger opportunity is using AI to create more clarity.

Those are not the same thing.

One creates volume.

The other creates signal.

And signal is increasingly what discovery systems appear to be measuring.

Closing

If I were starting today, I would spend less time asking:

“What should I publish?”

And more time asking:

“What evidence am I leaving behind?”

Because in an internet that can already generate content, the goal is no longer to publish the most.

The goal is to become someone worth listening to.
